An alternative to the Grab issue

Well by now, many parents with infants should have know that they cannot take book their usual grab. For those who do not know , this is the reason why it is not possible ..

Anyone below the height of 1.35m will be required to be secured with a child restraint appropriate for a person of that height and weight, use a booster seat to supplement the seat belt or an approved adjustable seat belt. Those with a height of 1.35m and above, irrespective of their age, will be required to wear a seat belt.

Yes, to make things worse, normal taxis ALLOWs infants w/o seatbelts or whatever. In fact, I have board many taxis with Baby Domo in my arms. Putting aside the legality of the taxis vs Grabs, does it even make sense that the former is allowed to ferry infants, while the latter are unable to? Both are four wheels vehicle with similar safety features (or the lack of).

Some people can just say, “eh , why dont you just book the normal taxis through the grab app?” . Simple , because it costs more and they are less comfortable* (For me, the red ones drive haphazardly, the blues/yellow have shitty suspension which causes motion sickness).

Luckily, there was another offering from Grab, which helps to solve this problem.
Introducing…GRAB SHUTTLEPLUS !!.

Not to be confused with the sibling – Grab Shuttle. The main differences are that Grab shuttle plus only caters to very specific areas as seen below and have a wider range of drop off and pick up points, and most importantly is an on-demand service (ala our usual taxis)

  • Bedok
  • Pasir Ris
  • Punggol
  • Sengkang
  • Tampines
No. of pickup/drop off points.

Prices start from 4 dollars onward (per pax) and really, that is pretty affordable. Furthermore, they are giving 4 rides free as part of their launch promo, simply key in SHUTTLEPLUS in the payment screen.

However, a huge drawback of this service is that we are not able to choose what kind of vehicles that we will be getting. One time, I got a minivan picking me up, which reeks of a toxic combination of tobacco and children vomit.

Weighing the pros and cons, I urge all parents who are struggling with normal taxis to try out Grabshuttle plus. If you are feeling generous, do use my referral code wnbbp23t when registering so that I can get more free rides when you try out the service.
